OUR PROJECTS - PAVING

Since 1998, Mondo Civils has accumulated a vast share of completed projects dating back to a time before digital cameras and on-line marketing. Over the past years, we have proven our work will stand the test of time. The following are just a few of our recorded projects which are highlighted by their unique character in some way or other.

    GREENSTONE HILL OFFICE PARK

    Client: Barrow Construction

Tasked with the full installation of 26 000m2 of Infrasets Crazee Interlocking paving and accompanying kerbs, we completed this project well within our time frame on a very busy site.  The paving accommodates both car traffic and heavy-duty loads quite comfortably while keeping a sophisticated appearance.

    RIVONIA BOULEVARD OFFICE

    Client: Trio Land Developments

Installation of Vanstone's Wet cast pavers including drainage and waterproofing.  The problem with paving on any suspended slab is dealing with drainage under the pavers as well as accomodating the movement of the slab. For this project, we installed the waterproofing, followed by a porous drainage layer, geofabrics, and then rigid paving with flexible joints over the slab's expansion joints. We achieved a finish to AAA office standards.

    WITS WEST CAMPUS
    PERMEABLE PAVING

In collaboration with our team of colleagues, John Cairnes and Taco Voogt, we installed the largest PCBO project of its time. Abutting one of Johannesburg’s major thoroughfares, Empire Road, the parking ground comprises a lower section about 6 000 m square metres in area and an upper section of some 7 000 m square metres.

    US EMBASSY, 1 SANDTON DR

    Client: B L Harbert International

An international Project in the middle of Sandton. Due to terrorism risks associated with US Embassys, all staff were subjected to interviews, drug tests, criminal record checks, and terrorism investigations before they could work on site. No photos were allowed to be taken on site and cell phones were kept by security at the entrance to the site. All our work was done to US standards and designs rather than the SANS specification we are familiar with. 8000m2 of Interlocking paving with 'curbs', base and subbase were constructed by us, as well as approximately 2000m2 of vertical retaining walls. In the end, a great experience and flagship project to be proud of.

    ANGLO BOER WAR MEMORIAL

    Client: Rand Regiments Memorial Trust

As a WORLD HERITAGE SITE we worked closely with Architect and Artist Johnathan Stone to re-establish his vision that would bring in natural elements of stone, clay, and grass to complement the centerpiece. Clay pavers created a frame and naturally exposed aggregate pavers were brought in from CEL in Cape Town to mark the center squares. The main approach road was surfaced using a unique design of bitumen stabilized base, bitumen tack coat, and a surface finish of 6-9mm natural crushed stone. The result was a hard-wearing reliable road that represented the material available during the Anglo-Boer war. Part of the scope also included reusing uplisted quartzite stones and rebuilding the approach staircases from them.
